Popping Lemon Pound Cake!

Finally! After a few months of just thinking about it, I have baked another lemon pound cake – successfully! Haha. And I added some poppy seeds, too. So I am calling this recipe a Popping Lemon Poundcake. It doesn’t matter what it means in context; I find it catchy πŸ˜›

This is inspired by the Lemon Poppyseed Poundcake from my favorite site by Ella at the Home Cooking Adventure. You can find the recipe here. I love going to her page because she made it so easy, plus the videos had good music in them. It sets me in the mood of creating something on my own.

As for my version, I got lazy the first time I tried it. Please don’t make the same mistake that I did. I am not a professional baker, too. I did not do the lemon glaze, and it’s crucial to do that because it makes the pound cake moist and more delicious! I have to ponder on that mistake for a few months since I last did it, plus the fact that I also did not add some poppy seeds because I could not find them in the grocery. I don’t know how to call it in French.

But on one weekend, I was kneeling at the bottom shelf at the Bio aisle and was looking intensely at this pack of something that looks like poppy seeds, but it said “oeillette bleue”! How could be it blue when I remember that it was somewhat brown or black?! Are you popping kidding me? I took a risk and bought it. I could not search inside the grocery because the internet connection there is always bad. When I got home, I began searching to see if I purchased the correct poppy seeds to start baking something using it. And voila, I got the right package! Haha. In other words, it is also called graine de pavot. Whew!

Anyway, this is my faavorite creation so far πŸ™‚

I have lots of stories of baking during this period of the pandemic. Yes, I’m like the others who have gone and lost themselves to quarantine baking, but hey, you couldn’t blame us. This is our only way to keep us sane and keep our minds off from the negativity that surrounds us lately. I find it therapeutic. When I bake, I also share this with friends, and it’s something that also helps me keep connected to them during this period of isolation.
